Since the posts frequency declined so radically, I see no more point in keeping this blog opened.

the neverending story - PHP flame wars

@ 12:00 PM (101 months, 4 days ago)
Since PHP 5.2.0 just came out, and sooo much time passed since the last language flame wars, the zealot guns are all loaded again:
There tends to be too much emotion involved now to make much sense of the arguments. Wondering why people prefer to blame the tools and not their poor understanding.

weird stuff happened this Sunday night?

@ 03:01 PM (101 months, 12 days ago)

It's not the dirty stuff you are always thinking about, but instead some geek stuff: you can have an additional cron coming out of nowhere by having a cronjob set-up like this:

firefox 2.0 - better wait for now

@ 02:05 PM (101 months, 22 days ago)
http://www.mozilla.com/img/firefox-title.pngA small piece of advice: don't try the new Firefox 2.0 RC 3, at least not until it becomes faster and better tested. You'll feel dissapointed and it's just not worth it. Better wait a while for the release to stabilize.

behind netflix

@ 01:31 PM (101 months, 26 days ago)
http://www.netflixprize.com/assets/header_netflix.gifHere's how Netflix understands to outsource business critical tasks: a $1 million prize for a recommendation system that outranges their own CinematchSM with a consistent rate of 10% better quality over time. Although it's an interesting idea, the strategical plan is weird, since the first commers have the advantage of "taking over" big slices of the market, also it's to assume that the place will be soon lurking with Phds. improved google reader

@ 11:11 AM (101 months, 29 days ago)
Google reader recently just got better, and most of my negative points are gone. To make the list complete, I always Adblock the logo wherever I find it; so I have nothing to complain anymore.

famous vista sound

@ 02:28 PM (103 months, 11 days ago)
There's a lot of debates now about the new vista startup sound; seems that it's impossible to turn it lower/off. slashdot users help the cause spread as usual, while the (pretty loud; and ugly?) startup sound makes its way accross the web.

elephants dream

@ 11:22 PM (103 months, 22 days ago)
http://orange.blender.org/wp-content/themes/orange/images/media/soundtrack_cover_s.jpgElephants dream is the output of Project Orange, and it is an open source movie, ready to be watched and downloaded here. It is one of the first releases in Europe in the super-format HD DVD (1920x1080). It's a fascinating  concept, I hope we'll have more of these.

closing online presence

@ 11:30 AM (104 months, 2 days ago)
I'm closing my online presence:
  • autozilla.de will be free soon. Great idea, too little time.
  • php9.com will expire next year. why did I buy it anyway?
  • blogHi.com will be closed in 3 months. same goes for this blog
  • same for the amazon associate spam: simplest-shop.com, 24x7 shopping network etc.
I'm moving on with my life.
