long tail economy: touching the void
Here's a high interest management topic nowadays: the long tail economy. It's the wired article that gives the best overview of the principle. Then there's a blog not saying much, and a lot of blabla
The basic idea is that a bestseller can push back into the global media mainstream a similar item that got forgotten. And this effect can happen after decades. Presumably there's a circle of ideas permanently rotating, so that similar ideas emerge at given intervals. If you think of it more, it happens quite often; more frequent with music, movies etc. The low-cost distribution theory is interesting also. Then wireless wanders away hiding the whole meaning away.
I wonder if it will work with the movie as well. I just saw the "Touching the void" movie yesterday and it was quite interesting, but I'd doubt that it will raise a comparable wave like the book did. Probably it's just a side-effect of the book's publicity, instead of being a Long-tail ballista.
